projet_texte Array Single String <p class="chapeau">En 1998, après avoir travaillé pour les Nations Unies et la CEE, Jota Castro décide de mettre un terme à sa carrière diplomatique internationale pour opérer dans le champ de l’art. Cet artiste franco-péruvien réalise des sculptures, des installations ou des évènements liés aux problématiques économiques, sociales et politiques actuelles – la construction européenne, le conflit israélo-palestinien, les politiques étrangères, etc.</p> Il serait pourtant erroné de réduire l’oeuvre de Jota Castro au seul "art politique". L’enjeu est plutôt de dévoiler le pouvoir des discours en plaçant souvent le langage et les signes visuels au centre de sa pratique artistique. L’association de noms propres, la retranscription de débats politiques ou encore les jeux de mots, provoquent davantage le trouble et l’ambiguïté chez le spectateur que l’affirmation rassurante d’une pensée établie. Jota Castro investira deux principaux lieux culturels de la ville de Rennes et proposera des interventions inédites dans l’espace public : • Une sélection d’oeuvres de Jota Castro sera présentée à La Criée centre d’art contemporain : · la sculpture <em>Mussolini non ha mai ammazzato nessuno</em> (Mussolini n’a jamais tué personne) représentant Silvio Berlusconi, suspendu par un pied, tête en bas, au dessus du drapeau européen ; · la série <em>Motherfuckers never die</em> (Les fils de pute ne meurent jamais) constituée de trois caissons lumineux sur lesquels on peut lire les noms de personnalités et de multinationales controversées ; · l’installation <em>Torino Junknews</em> composée de cinquante sacs poubelle en plastique transparent remplis d’articles de presse et fermés par des néons rouges et bleus ; · la sculpture de journaux <em>A drop in the Ocean</em> (Une goutte dans l’océan) proposée en septembre 2004 à la Biennale de Gwangju en Corée et qui soulève le problème du Darfour au Soudan ; · la pièce <em>Breaking Icons</em> (Briser les icônes) présentant cent portraits d’intellectuels, d’artistes ou d’hommes politiques. Ces portraits, accrochés au mur, ont le verre de leur encadrement brisé ; · la vidéo 2 juillet 2003 <em>Presidenza Italiana</em>, reprise lyrique des débats entre les parlementaires européens M. Schultz et M. Berlusconi. • Une installation monumentale intitulée <em>Amiel </em>sera spécialement produite pour la Galerie du TNB. Des morceaux de verre brisé recouvriront intégralement les 400m2 de l’espace d’exposition. Les visiteurs pourront traverser le lieu en empruntant un ponton en bois. Parallèlement, le bâtiment du TNB recevra en façade l’inscription lumineuse en néon rouge "Tout n’a pas été dit, tout n’a pas été fait". • La performance 2 juillet 2003 <em>Presidenza Italiana </em>sera reconduite à Rennes pendant le festival. Les acteurs initiaux, une cantatrice et un pianiste, seront présents pour interpréter le récital. • Des lectures publiques de nouvelles étrangères seront déclamées dans différents quartiers rennais. Ces textes ont été choisis par l’artiste en lien avec les populations immigrées résidant à Rennes. Des comédiens se déplaceront et liront ces nouvelles dans la ville grâce à un "vélo-pupitre". Les expositions Jota Castro organisées dans le cadre du festival Mettre en Scène 2004 mettront en évidence la capacité de l’artiste à produire des espaces critiques et subversifs, questionnant des faits sociopolitiques actuels. La place de cet artiste est donc pleinement justifiée au sein d’un tel festival, inauguré cette année par un colloque international, <em>Mises en Scène du Monde</em>, qui interroge la notion de mise en scène et son articulation entre les scènes artistiques (théâtre, danse), et d’autres scènes publiques (urbaine, politique).
